When this house was built, to bring it up to code, clear plastic was put down in the crawl space. This level of protection is very minimal and only works in the short term. Eventually, this plastic would be ripped to shreds, and moisture would be able to ruin the insulation inside. The crawl space would also then suffer from mold growth and rotting.
