Job Stories From Surry County, NC
Crawl Space Repair in Mount Airy, NC

The crawl space in this home showed early signs of mold development and had debris from insulation and weak plastic coverings scrapped throughout. The environment this created was not only at risk of mold but also of providing nesting for bugs and other vermin that would damage the house and contaminate the crawl space air.

One of our inspectors evaluated the situation and straightforwardly explained the solutions for the problems to the homeowner. After the homeowner choose us, we sent our crew to clean up the existing mess and installed CleanSpace, SilverGlo, and a Sanidry dehumidifer. These products were designed to protect crawl spaces from moisture building up and to be long-term solutions. CleanSpace in particular is used so that over the years the plastic covering remains intact unlike other products that become ripped or get shredded easily by rats and other sources.

The homeowner, Peter from Mt. Airy, said trusting us was “One of the very best decisions I have ever made with my home” and we are extremely happy to of made such a difference in the life of this homeowner.

Wet and Cracked Basement Wall Repair in Siloam, NC

This older basement had seen its better days and over the years formed two primary issues. It was wet and cracking. As rain wore down the dirt around the home and the cold air froze the water in the ground just to have it thawed out, and the weight of the entire house bearing down on the basement the walls became defenseless against nature. Water was leaking in through the block rendering it useless and leaving a musty smell behind. It was cracking and beginning to bow the back wall threatening a collapse.

We discussed these issues with the homeowner and offered our best solution. After accepting the proposal, we sent our crew out to do the work. By Installing our patented WaterGuard waterproofing system around the edge of the basement we ensured this basement will collect and pump out any water that makes it way to the block walls. In addition to the waterproofing we also supported the back wall with steel beam supports. These supports can push a wall back in place but are designed to hold a wall and prevent bowing from ever happening. This cracked wall needing the support.

After completion and another customer satisfied, we cleaned up our work and left it the basement better than when we found it. The work installed in this home increased the homes value and protects it from the issues nature and time had brought upon it.

Stabilizing Sinking Floor with SmartJacks in Elkin, NC

The floor of this home had started to bow and was slowing sinking down. This is a common issue for some older homes, and over time it can become a real stabilization issue. We inspected the home and subscribed the quickest, easiest, and most reliable way to stop the sinking.

SmartJacks installed under a steel beam support was the solution. We ran the beam across the entire crawl space under the sinking floor joists which created the perfect support for the SmartJacks. These metal jacks are designed to work inside crawl spaces and basements to support sinking floors. We evenly spaced out enough of them to support the area and tightened them to keep the floor supported.

After we finished, the homeowners were happy with how the job turned out. It was a solid start to protecting their home from the natural wear and tear. There was still work that could be done, and we started to seal off the crawl space, but when we left the floor was perfectly stabilized.

Supporting Sinking Floor with SmartJacks in Lowgap, NC

The crawl space under this home had plenty of problems, however we were here to solve to structural issue. The floor above the crawl space was sinking heavily and relied on makeshift supports from underneath it. This method of supporting the sinking floor had only one way to go and that was down. We knew the best way to keep this foundation supported and to stabilize it from further sinking was to install SmartJacks which are specifically designed to support floors from inside basements and crawl spaces.

When we got into the crawl space it was important to clear it out and regrade the area to keep it level for the jacks. This also made it much easier for future work to be done. Once we got the crawl space ready to go, it was easy to get the SmartJacks into place. We spaced them out strategically and tightened them to stabilize the floor and attempt to get some lift back.

After the job we cleaned everything up and left the crawl space looking great. The home now has a reliable source of protection from the sinking floor and unstable foundation. Of course, there are many issues that could still arise with this home, but for now it is in good condition, and the homeowners were happy with our work.

Encapsulating Drafting and Wet Crawl Space in Ararat, NC

One of the major problems that the homeowners were having with their house was the draft from the crawl space. The area under the home was so susceptible to the weather outside that it made it difficult to keep the home heated and cooled.

The solution to this problem was a crawl space encapsulation and waterproofing system. Encapsulating the crawl space made the area a part of the home against and not just conduit for the weather to affect the home. The perimeter was waterproofed with a sump pump. The walls were insulated from the cold and heat. A CleanSpace vapor barrier was installed to keep moisture out of the air, and a SaniDry dehumidifying air system was plugged up to keep the crawl space air dry.

This area of the home had never looked so nice! We made it a proper part of the house and kept it protected from the elements outside of the home. The energy efficiency increased as well as the air quality and made the homeowners very happy with the result.

Stabilizing Bowing Wall with CarbonArmor in Elkin, NC

The block walls in this basement had severe cracking and had started to bow inward. This kind of damage to the wall created concern for a wall collapse and so the homeowners started looking for a solution. They found us and we conducted a free inspection of their wall and found that the likely cause of the issue was the freezing and thawing of the ground outside the walls. This expanding and retracting of the earth had moved the foundation walls that formed the cracks and put the inward pressure on the walls.

Our solution was to stabilize the wall with CarbonArmor strips. These strips are flexible and extremely durable. They allow the block wall to move organically while holding it together. The installation of these CarbonArmor strips are quick and easy and less intrusive and more forgiving than steel beam supports. This is a great solution for the early stages of an inward bowing wall such as this one.

After the job, the homeowners were happy with our work. The basement walls were stabilized, and the threat of a wall collapse was no longer on their minds. We offer several solutions for cracked and bowing walls, such as steel beam supports, but this basement got the most value out of our patented CarbonArmor strips.

Waterproofing Basement with a Sump Pump and French Drain System in Elkin, NC

When the walls started leaking and the concrete floor was pooling water, the owners of this home new it was time to look into waterproofing. Over time, water will find a way into a basement and that is why we’ve spent all our time investigating the issues to find solutions. We inspected this home and found that a full perimeter interior waterproofing system was the best solution.

Our system utilizes our WaterGuard perimeter drain that collects water from the walls and ground before it gets into the room and runs it into our TripleSafe sump pump. From there the water is pumped out of the basin away from the home through a French drain. This drain also utilizes an IceGuard to protect it from getting stopped up and freezing during the winter.

This system we installed into this basement and it works great! The homeowners were very happy with the result, and we were happy to help another basement stay dry and safe.

Waterproofing and Stabilizing Block Wall Basement near Lowgap, NC

Constant influxes of water in the ground around the basement in this home started to cause a few issues. The pressure started to crack a portion of the wall and water was seeping through the block walls into the basement. This also put the home at risk of a wall collapse and mold growth from the high humidity.

We inspected the basement and proposed a solution. This solution would waterproof the perimeter of the basement, making it perfectly functional again. It would keep water vapor out of the air and dehumidify the air to keep the humidity low and reduce the risk of mold growth. Also, this system would stabilize the cracking and problematic wall to keep it from collapsing.

The homeowners reviewed this solution and trusted us to install our patented products to solve their problems. The job was clean, and everything went to plan. The homeowners were very happy with the results and glad to have their basement protected from these issues.

Supporting and Raising a Pilot Mountain, NC Concrete Porch

Poured concrete slabs around the base of the home, such as this one, often experience complications with sinking toward the home. The erosion and settlement around and under the concrete porch gave way for it to slope toward the home. This made every rain a problem for the home because the water on the porch would flow toward the base of the home and pool up on the porch.

When the homeowner’s decided to search for a solution, we did a full inspection of the problem and suggested injecting our PolyLevel foam under the slab to attempt to raise it and the stabilize it from sinking further.

The homeowner’s decided to trust us with this project and were not disappointed. We were able to achieve lift and move the porch back to its original pour line under the home’s outer wall. We also successfully filled the void underneath the slab to prevent further issues with sinking. Everyone on this project was happy to have worked on it, and the home’s concrete porch has never been more level ever since it was poured.

Inspecting and Waterproofing Flooded Basement in Dobson, NC

Flooded basements are no strange thing to us. So, when we were called to inspect this home, we knew the urgency and solutions that these homeowners had and needed. The flooding was coming from the basement walls and floors from ground water that would rise after it rained. This means that there is no simple fix, although we provided the easiest route to a permanent solution possible.

We proposed our interior waterproofing and drainage system that uses WaterGuard for collection and drainage and a TripleSafe sump pump to expel the water. The WaterGuard runs under the floor around the perimeter of the basement and stops water as its coming in and drains it to a sump pump. This sump pump can hold and pump gallons of water and discharges it through a French drain outside the home.

When we got done with installing this system, the basement was well protected and dry. No more ruined items, high humidity, or easy mold growth inside of this basement.

Waterproofing Dirty and Cracking Basement in Mount Airy, NC

The concrete floor in this basement was cracking and the block walls were leaking water. This complication decreased the safety of the home. To start getting the basement back in working order, the homeowners decided to waterproof it. Doing this would help solve the issues created by water leakage.

We came in and busted up the concrete around the perimeter and installed our WaterGuard drainage. With this in the ground under the floor, we can capture water intrusion and send it away from the home before it harms the basement. All the water flows into a sump pump that pumps the water out of a discharge line. When the concrete in repoured and the system is fully installed, the basement functions exactly as it did before, and it stays dry.

Once we finished the job, the homeowners were very happy. In this case, the road to home improvement started with us ensuring that the basement would not leak and cause adjacent issues to arise.

Repairing and Leveling Concrete Porch in State Road, NC

Erosion and settling caused this front porch to shift and crack. Along the door is sunk significantly making it a trip hazard as well. The homeowners wanted to fix these issues before they got worse and rendered their entire porch useless or dangerous to walk on.

So, we went out to inspect. We found that our PolyLevel and NeusPro products could easily protect this home. We pumped PolyLevel under the porch to fill in the void that allowed the concrete to sink. Doing this stabilized the slabs and even lifted the porch back into place along the door jam. Lastly, we sealed all remaining cracks with NexusPro. This helps bind the slab back together and protect it from water seepage.

With the slab restored, the homeowners were happy. The potential trip hazard and the ruined slab is no longer something to worry about.

Waterproofing Wet Leaking Basement in Mount Airy, NC

Water seepage was starting to affect this basement by raising the humidity, creating musty smells, and ruining storage items. To prevent the leaks from further harming the home the homeowners had us waterproof it.

We jackhammered the floor around the perimeter of the basement and installed WaterGuard to collect water as it comes through the wall. Weep holes are drilled to allow water easy flow into our WaterGuard drainage system and is pumped out through our sump pump. After we repoured the jackhammered concrete, the basement was set up to keep water intrusion out of the basement.

Keeping this basement clean and dry made the homeowners very happy with our work. The discharge line was dug outside and flowed away from the base of the home to make sure it does not pool up in harmful areas.

Exposed and Flooding Basement Repair in Mount Airy, NC

The entrance into this dugout basement had dirt walls and was surrounded by crawl space. Because of this design and a rising water table, flooding was consistent. The homeowners knew they needed to find a solution to increase the health of their home.

We inspected the basement and created a solution to wall water off and to re-route intruding water into our sump pump drainage system. WaterGuard and EZflow ran along the perimeter to catch water and funnel it into our TripleSafe sump pump while our CleanSpace vapor barrier keeps ground water out of the air.

This new system stopped the flooding and allowed the basement to be utilized by the homeowners safely.

Protecting Westfield, NC Car Port Concrete

Erosion and settlement created a void under this car port and was shifting the whole structure. Gravity was causing stress cracks and the area was becoming unusable.

The homeowners wanted us to look at the car port and we found that we could protect the concrete with our PolyLevel and NexusPro. These products work together to stabilize the sinking concrete slab and seal the cracking.

Once we finished pumping the foam and sealing the cracks, the car port was back level and held together. It was also stabilized, and the void was filled.

Stabilizing and Sealing Sagging and Wet Dobson, NC Crawl Space

After inspecting the crawl space thoroughly, we started to solve the problems by sealing it in our durable CleanSpace vapor barrier. This keeps the moisture out of the air and reduces humidity. Then we installed SamrtJacks to support and stabilize the floor of the home.

The homeowners loved the improvements, and the house was much healthier.

Old and Musty Crawl Space in Pilot Mountain, NC

Mary of Pilot Mountain, NC contacted Carolina Basement Systems in regards to the crawl space of her very old home. This homeowner was smart to call the local waterproofing experts.

After our inspector worked with Mary to create the best plan of action to meet her budget and needs, Elias and his hardworking crew were on the job. They started by removing all debris and sealing all vents to enclose the space. Next, drainage matting was placed on the ground to drain water from underneath the CleanSpace liner. Next, the CleanSpace was installed on the walls, floors, and piers to control humidity and seal off the space from cold winter drafts. Lastly, a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier and filtration system was hooked up to prevent mold and reduce musty odors.
