Moisture was seeping into this crawl space in several ways and was causing high humidity and increased mold growth. The damages that were occurring underneath this home made the homeowners very uncomfortable and so they went in search of a solution.
They went with us because we were able to install a permanent, full-proof solution to their moisture problems. We encapsulated the crawl space to protect the air inside and waterproofed the perimeter to keep all water seepage pumped outside and away from the home.
Thin plastic ground cover and rusted, tilting floor jacks were the only things keeping this crawl space protected. The crawl space was becoming a hot bed for mold and must and the floor was continuing to sink as these short-term solutions had finally run its course. So, the owner of the home decided to have a permanent solution installed.
We came and installed out SmartJack system first. These jacks are placed under a steel beam to offer the stabilization required to hold the house floor up. This also makes it easier for the jacks to stay in place as the steel beam is less likely to shift over time. Secondly, we installed a CleanSpace vapor barrier. This barrier is much thicker than the common black or clear plastic placed under houses and instead is thick enough to resist tearing and keeps moisture out of the crawl space. Being able to control the air quality and moisture around the crawl space significantly increases the protection against mold.
After we did the job, we were proud to see how happy the homeowner was. Over the years this crawl space had been burdensome for the home and caused immediate problems such as odd smells throughout the house. When this project was completed it looked great, functioned properly, and our customer felt much better about the condition of his crawl space, which are all marks we constantly strive to achieve.
Unlike most waterproofing jobs we do this home had a ground level water seepage issue. The one-story home was built on a slab and had a sizable leak coming through one of the corners. As the damage amounted and the humidity raised the homeowners wanted us to look at potential solutions.
Inspecting this unique situation led us to some unique solutions. We were able to pull back the carpet around the affected area and install an interior waterproofing system just covering the problem corner. This will keep the water leakage in this corner from affecting the inside wall and will dispel the water outside. We also installed vapor barrier along the wall and a basement air machine in order to control the moisture inside the home.
This solution satisfied our customers and solved the problem. They were happy with the look of the finished job and the reduction in humidity and water damage. The homeowners had only noticed this issue for the last couple of years but wanted to stay in their home forever. So, they were looking for a permanent solution, which we were happy to provide.
