Water Damage and Mold on Interior Wall
The paint on the walls in this basement had started to chip and push away because of the water that sits inside the block wall. This damage had also started to form mold and increase humidity because the water has no where to escape but inside.
Exposed Stairwell into Basement
The exterior entry way into this basement was virtually open to the weather outside. Water could easily get in and be stored up inside the block.
Crawl Space Attached to Basement
This unprotected crawl space was also wide open to the basement through a hatch in the back wall. This means that water vapor in the crawl space also affects the humidity inside the basement.
Solving Water Leakage and Humidity Issues
The far corner near the crawl space was a great spot for our basement tested dehumidifier and our sump pump system to be installed. WaterGuard was run around the edge of the basement and runs into this pump to send all intruding water out.
Protection Behind Stairwell
Now that our WaterGuard system is installed under the slab and collecting water from the block wall, and our CleanSpace vapor barrier is sealed against the wall, this exposed stairwell will be able to stay dry and not increase the humidity.
Humidity Control on Open Crawl Space
Since the crawl space air can directly flow into the basement, we wanted to hedge against degrading air quality. This vapor barrier wrapped inside the whole crawl space will help to reduce the vapor in the air, resulting in lower humidity levels.
